SUMMARY:WLPNW: Game Localization and Women Underrepresentation
DESCRIPTION:The Pacific Northwest Chapter is hosting a panel of experts to discuss career and opportunities in the gaming localization industry\n\n\nThe global gaming market is one of the fastest growing in recent years\, with more than 2.5 billion players worldwide and a revenue of $180 billion in 2021. \nAlthough female gamers represent close to 50% of the player base around the world\, according to information gathered by Women in Games\, in 2020 the global average statistic showed only a 24% women representation in the Games Industry Workforce. When it comes to esports\, only 5% of players are female. \nClearly\, there’s a long way to go to achieve equality in the games and esports industry and to develop strategies that contribute to that desired outcome. On the Globalization front\, localization is crucial for companies that aspire to take their video games abroad\, including not only their product\, but also all the content to promote it aiming to reach global audiences. Gaming Localization entails different disciplines\, such as dubbing\, transcreation\, LQA\, Machine Translation and more. In this event\, we’ll talk with our all-female panelists who currently work in different areas of gaming localization\, and we’ll discuss what kind of opportunities are out there for loc professionals\, what skillsets are in need for these field\, and other topics related to the industry. \nIf you want to learn more about how to enter and thrive in this exciting and ever-growing field\, please join us virtually for an interactive panel on Thursday\, March 24\, 2022\, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM PDT (Pacific) \nShare this page with your friends\, colleagues\, and those who you think might benefit from the experience of industry experts. \nOur expert panelists for the PNW WL panel discussion: \n– Cristina Anselmi\, Machine Translation Lead\, Electronic Arts\, Inc. \n– Jenni Gant\, Global Games Account Director – Lionbridge Games \n– Denisse Kreeger\, Head of Localization Production\, Riot Games \nTo join the event\, click “Access the event” button on the right.
