SUMMARY:WLIE: Machine translation in the era of Chat-GPT. A paradigm shift?
DESCRIPTION:At this event\, Alex Yanishevsky will provide an overview of machine translation in a business context and reflect on the new role of LLMs.\n\n\nMachine translation in the era of Chat-GPT. A paradigm shift? \nThe widespread use of machine translation has the potential to break down language barriers and facilitate communication on a global scale\, opening up new opportunities for collaboration and cultural exchange. Machine translation has significantly improved in recent years due to advances in artificial intelligence\, particularly in natural language processing. \nLarge Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT\, GPT3\, GPT4\, Bard\, Amazon Bedrock platform have played a significant role in the advancement of machine translation technology. The ability of these models to generate coherent and contextually relevant responses has helped to overcome some of the major challenges in machine translation\, such as accurately translating idiomatic expressions and capturing the nuances of human language. \nWhile there are still limitations to machine translation\, the improvements brought about by LLMs\, advances in the field suggest that we may be on the cusp of a paradigm shift in how we communicate across language barriers. \nCurrently Director of AI and MT at Smartling\, Alex Yanishevsky has been in the localization industry for over 20 years in a variety of roles. He has written numerous articles for industry journals such as MultiLingual and has regularly presented at industry conferences such as GALA\, LocWorld\, TAUS and AMTA. His areas of expertise include AI\, NLP\, machine translation\, and TMS/CAT tools. Alex is currently Vice President of AMTA (American Machine Translation in the Americas). He holds a Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literatures from Brown University. \n+++ \nThe link to join the webinar will be sent by email 30 minutes prior to the event. \nThis event is organised by Women In Localization.
