SUMMARY:WLIE: Overcoming Blind Spots in Intercultural Management
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a webinar by Jessica Rathke on overcoming blind spots in intercultural management\n\n\nIn an always more interconnected world\, businesses often operate in many different countries across the globe and\, in the workplace\, different (sometimes opposite) cultures come into contact. We mostly embrace and approach other cultures with an open mind but\, when it comes to leadership and management\, there is a strong tendency to unconsciously manage one’s own culture. This may cause misunderstandings\, demotivation or even conflict. \nIn this webinar\, Jessica Rathke will be presenting the Hofstede-Insights umbrella\, with a special focus on three of the Hofstede model cultural dimensions. She will explore the different aspects of cultural differences and explain how it is possible to overcome blind spots using real-life examples. \nYou will walk away with a greater cultural awareness and an understanding of how cultural differences can impact your ability to effectively manage and work in global teams. \n \nAbout the presenter: \nJessica Ratkhe has 29 years of localization sales experience and she is currently Principal at FluentSales LLC\, an Austin/London-based sales consultancy. She helps translation industry leaders around the world increase revenue through training and consulting services. She also helps business leaders improve cross-cultural management competencies through her work as Associate Partner at Hofstede Insights. \nJessica holds an MBA and a Bachelor of Arts in Foreign Affairs and in German from Miami University in Ohio USA. She also did post-graduate German studies at the University of Salzburg. Jessica has served in various leadership roles in Women in Localization in the US and UK. \n \n—————— \nThe event is open to everyone but the recording will only be available to Women in Localization members. \n??? SUMMARY:WLPNW: Imposter Syndrome: Identify it and learn ways to deal with it
DESCRIPTION:The Pacific Northwest Chapter is hosting a guest speaker to discuss the so-called imposter syndrome in localization and how to fight it\n\n\nImposter Syndrome: Identify it and learn ways to deal with it \n \n“Why am I here?” “What can I possibly contribute?” “Am I good enough?” “Am I as smart as my colleagues?” “Does my work here matter? ” If you ever asked yourself these or similar questions\, if you ever checked your work 10+ times in a couple of hours and still didn’t feel like it’s enough\, if you ever questioned the quality of your translation for no apparent reason – you know what we are talking about: It is commonly referred to as Imposter Syndrome. \n \nImposter syndrome is a pervasive feeling of self-doubt\, insecurity and incompetence despite evidence that you are skilled and successful. The term was first coined by the clinical psychologists in the 1970s\, based on the observations of the many high-achieving women who tended to believe they were inadequate or not competent despite academic and professional accomplishments. \n \nThough not an official diagnosis\, research is beginning to show that Imposter Syndrome\, or Imposter Phenomenon\, can be harmful for one’s career and one’s health\, it could lead to anxiety\, depression and self-sabotage. \nChances are that at any given point in your career you may have experienced Imposter Syndrome. \nDon’t miss our in-depth discussion with Ritsu Itoi\, during which we will attempt to reframe and discuss how we can cope better with it. Ritsu is a psychotherapist who works with clients with various emotional\, life\, and professional difficulties. She worked and developed a successful career in the localization industry for many years. \nJoin us on Wednesday\, October 27\, 2021\, from 12:00 PM to 1:00PM PDT. \nShare this event with your friends\, colleagues\, and those who you think might benefit from learning more about this topic. \nThe event is open to everyone but the recording will only be available to Women in Localization members.\n \n???
