MOUNTAIN VIEW, California, USA, November 17, 2020. Women in Localization (W.L.), the leading professional organization for women in the localization industry, is excited to announce the launch of a new Chapter in Greece. This will be W.L.’s twenty-seventh (27th) chapter.
Leading the Women in Localization Greece (WLGR) chapter is Chapter Manager Yota Georgakopoulou from Athena Consultancy. She is joined by Event Manager Vilelmini Sosoni from the Ionian University, Membership Manager Popie Matsouka from MTLT, Mentorship and Education Manager Vasso Pouli from Commit Global, Social Media Manager Stavroula Sokoli from the Computer Technology Institute and Sponsorship Manager Maria Gialama from IAS SA.
“The Greek localization market consists of a large but fragmented community of professionals, mostly women, who often work in isolation and don’t have many avenues for networking with their peers, exchanging knowledge and ideas or supporting each other,” said Chapter Manager Yota Georgakopoulou. “We are very excited to be leading the expansion of W.L. in Greece. We believe an international organization such as W.L. will offer them a global community they can be part of.”
“One of our organization’s goals is to continue to grow and Greece is the fifth chapter that we have launched in 2020,” said Cecilia Maldonado, Women in Localization Vice President and Board Sponsor, Chapters and Global Growth.
The chapter’s inaugural event will be held virtually on Friday, November 27, 2020. The event will introduce the organization and its goals, the Greek leadership team and will feature a panel discussion on how W.L. is relevant to localization professionals in Greece. The highlight of the event is an interview with WarnerMedia Localization Manager Dr. Elina Lagoudaki. With 17 years of experience in localization and a PhD in translation technology, Dr. Lagoudaki is responsible for overseeing localization operations for Turner’s kids content on digital platforms.
