WLCO – Chat with Jamie Giellis
December 5, 2019 @ 6:30 PM - 9:00 PM
About this Event
Join us on Thursday, December 5th at the Bar Isabel inside the Source Hotel Market Hall in Denver for a talk given by Jamie Giellis.
Jamie Giellis is best known as the dark horse candidate who challenged incumbent Denver mayor Michael Hancock in a narrow runoff election last fall, nearly succeeding in unseating the two-term mayor. Jamie will draw upon her experience in municipal politics as well as a community developer and activist to inspire a discussion on women in leadership beyond the world of politics, and also discuss and the interdisciplinary nature of localization and its application beyond the sphere of language.
As a mayoral candidate in a hotly-contested race, Jamie will share her experience as a woman competing for office and relate her challenges to the greater struggle for all women striving for professional leadership and influential roles. She will also discuss how her work in community development in the USA and abroad relates to the work of WLCO members localizing content and experiences for our own customers.
As the founder and president of Centro, a consulting firm dedicated to the strategic and (re)inventive creation of cities, places, and neighborhoods, Centro has guided cities across the globe through various projects, redesigns, and improvement efforts. Under Jamie’s leadership and expertise, Centro has become an internationally sought-after resource for best-practices and proven processes in developing high-quality spaces and enhancing the quality of life across communities. The work of Centro under Jamie’s leadership has empowered communities to effectively manage themselves and help form effective partnerships to implement strategies which allow places to successfully manage their needs and thrive economically, socially, and culturally in the long-term, in a manner that respects local flavor and culture, much like the work of localization in language.
Light refreshments will be provided and alcoholic beverages can be purchased at Isabel Bar. Parking is available in the Source Hotel garage. The Hotel is also RTD accessible via A-line (38th & Blake St. Station.)
We thank our generous sponsors Isabel at The Source Hotel and Lingoport for their contributions to this event!
