The One Million Words Question: Bridging The Gap For Freelance Translators

April 25, 2023 @ 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM

Global experts address the gap of one million words (or 2 years) of freelance translation experience that many agencies look for.

Meet our amazing panelists who will be there to help our freelance translator community:

We have sourced the best experts we could think of for diverse panel, with special focus on free mentoring programs and eduction/self-learning for freelance translators: experienced games translator Marina Ilari, Alba Carballal who went through Beluga’s mentoring program, and self-taught translator Wei-San Chiang.

We have Michelle Rabie from the South African agency ST Communications where their unique mentoring program across more than 50 African languages is vital to business success, and Daniela D’Amato from Creative Words who mentor freelancers with the aim to give back to the community by sharing their diverse knowledge gained over many years

Our panel is also armed with our favourite translation lecturer, researcher and translator: Piero Toto.

Chat Masters Anna L. Ahlers – one of the most successful freelance translators we know – and Localization Industry expert and Senior Analyst at CSA Research Alison Toon will collect questions for the panelists and interact with our participants throughout.

Background for our event: Building on our last and hugely popular Global Community Education event “Making a Living As a Freelance Translator” we are addressing the gap of one million words (or 2 years) of freelance translation experience that many Language Service Providers (LSPs) are looking for before they will give a freelance – or in-house – translator even a translation test. Where and how can you find freelance work and when do you need to start?
