In collaboration with Confucius Institute, Women in Localization Singapore Chapter is inviting you to join our first face-to-face event in The Pod @ National Library Singapore – Preserving Our Heritage: A Translation Journey, from 2pm – 4pm on the 1st of March, 2025.

We are bringing to you an engaging fireside chat with our honorable speakers as we explore the vital role of translation in celebrating and preserving the rich tapestry of heritage in multicultural Singapore. Below you can find the introduction of our guest speakers:

* Aisyah is an award-winning Malay writer and poet, passionate about storytelling, language and translation. She was appointed as a Friend of SG Translate Together by the National Translation Committee and as a mentor by Malay Language Council Singapore. Aisyah received the prestigious Batul Izzuddin Global Citizen Prize and Mendaki Pinnacle Award. She also co-founded two youth literary collectives in Singapore and represented the country at international literary platforms.

* Shelly’s an award-winning translator, writer and a cultural intelligence expert. Through her venture TL Global Insights, she helps organizations to craft narratives that resonate across borders and honor diverse perspectives. Shelly’s also the author of eleven poetry collections and her translation of Sheng Keyi’s Northern Girls was long-listed for the 2012 Man Asian Literary Prize.

* Narayanan oversees Public Communications targeted at the Tamil-speaking community and is an active member of the Tamil Language Council and the Indian Culture and Language Advisory Panel. He contributes to national efforts to preserve and promote the Tamil language and culture. He also serves as an Adjunct Lecturer at the Singapore University of Social Sciences.

2025 is the year Singapore celebrates its 60th birthday. The country is renowned for its diverse cultures and traditions, and this event will explore how effective translation can enhance our understanding and appreciation of various heritages. Throughout the event, we hope to share an inspiring dialogue on preserving our past while embracing our multicultural present. You will also have the opportunity to network and discuss with experts who share the same passion with you when it comes to preserving our culture from an translation angle!

Please note that the event will be held in English and we will offer Halal-friendly refreshments for you to enjoy!
