In an environment of information overload, speedy information processing and communication are required. Readers are now able to instantly select the information they really need. Major countries around the world are adopting plain language communication to increase the efficiency and productivity of both writers and readers. In this session, you will learn the key points of translating into plain language to convey messages to readers in a concise, clear, and precise manner that will facilitate business.

Adapting to agile localization business with effective quality management by Chizu Tanaka

テクノロジー企業が昨今のビジネスを世界で席巻する中、ローカライズにも同様のアプローチやマインドセットが求められるようになっています。その手法の実践に際して重視しているのが、クライアントの期待値の理解、データに基づいた品質評価、リソース開発です。このセッションでは、この3つのポイントに触れつつ、翻訳者としての過去の経験から学んだ、品質に対する期待値の変化や、データと人とのバランスを中心にお話しします。

Understanding changing clients’ needs in depth and quickly adapting yourself and your business to them are becoming even more critical in order to navigate today’s localization business in this age of agility and constant change. In Crestec USA, we focus on 3 pillars; understanding clients’ expectations, data-driven quality evaluation, and people focused resource management. In this session Chizu will share her experiences as a former translator and discuss quality expectations that have changed over time and essential soft skills for linguists.

上智大学国際教養学部卒。日系エアラインで培った現場での生きた英語力ときめ細やかなサービス力を活かし、統合報告書を始め数多くのIR 資料制作に従事。大手上場会社向けにPlain English、Plain Language のセミナー講師を務める。

Engaged in the production of many IR materials, including integrated reports, by utilizing her English skills and attentive service skills cultivated at a Japanese airline. 豪州シドニーのマッコーリー大学で翻訳・通訳の修士号を取得後、日本コカ・コーラや大手広報代理店に企業内翻訳者として勤務し、マーケティングの専門知識を習得。その後、Booking.comで翻訳・ローカライズチームのオペレーションマネージャーとして、テクノロジー分野での品質管理の経験を積み、現在は、Crestec USAでローカライズの品質管理全般を担当している。

Chizu Tanaka joined Crestec USA in 2020 as a quality manager and language lead and support the Localization team to ensure it delivers high quality services. Prior to that she worked as a translator for Coca-Cola Japan, Weber Shandwick, and Booking.com, where she gained various expertise in technology, brand marketing, and people management. She received her Master’s degree in Translations & Interpreting, Linguistics from MacQuarie University.
