Tell us who you are?

I’m a 25-year veteran of the localization industry, currently helping Subway with their Globalization needs.

Where around the world are you based?

The exciting and bustling city of Boise, Idaho. I have been a remote worker for the past 3 years, as Subway is based in Milford, CT.

What do you do in the localization/globalization world?

I really love helping companies with their globalization strategy. I’ve pioneered globalization departments for every company I’ve joined. I love helping people and departments achieve success with globalization. I currently work for Subway and I get to work with every department in the company. We as globalizers have the ability to break down silos and help people work better together.

Why did you join this amazing tribe?

I remember the first W.L. meeting back in Silicon Valley, which is where I lived when it was started. I knew from the first informal, and then formal meetings, I wanted to be a part of this amazing group. I am a single mom and back when W.L. first started, I couldn’t always get a sitter. I brought him to many events and he was always welcome. I remember one time Anna took my little son’s hand and brought him to the front of the room and talked about the evening’s topic with his hand in hers. It was so sweet and it made me feel welcome and accepted.

What would you say is the greatest challenge facing our industry?

We need to keep talking about this pandemic and how’s affecting our industry, our friends, our jobs. This is the biggest challenge I think any of us have faced and I’m amazed to see how so many people are supportive of others. I struggled with sadness and fear the first month and I know others did too. We need to continue to help each other however we can – mentoring, job recommendations, offer to be a reference for someone who’s lost a job.

Where would you like to see localization in 5 years?

I would like to see an increased appreciation for our roles within companies. This pandemic brought a huge spotlight on my role within Subway. It shouldn’t take another disaster for this to happen again. I also see LSP project managers work incredibly hard and very long hours. I don’t have much insight as to how much they are appreciated, but if they’re not rewarded on a regular basis, I’d like to see that change. I would not be here today without all the PMs that helped me and my companies through tough times.

Tell us something unique and fun about yourself

I am a Pokemon, Hello Kitty and Pusheen freak. I actually subscribe to a quarterly Pusheen box, and I wear Pokemon or Hello Kitty socks every day. I wish I could say it’s because of my son, but I started watching Pokemon on Saturday mornings when I was in my late 20s, which is when it first came out here in the States.
